They say people will travel shorter distances to their vacation destinations and stay for shorter lengths of time.

From our viewpoint on Sanibel’s beach, the quality of the destination should make a difference too. If you will be investing more in getting to your vacation, you want to be sure you are head somewhere worth it.

We nominate Sanibel Island and Sanibel Arms West. Sanibel Island because even veteran travel guru and trip adviser, Arthur Frommer has named Sanibel his favorite vacation place. Sanibel Arms West because we not only have comfortable condo suites on the world’s best shelling beach, we also have canal front units with boat access.

So what affect will gas prices have on your vacation?

Everyone has their favorite(s).

So we don’t want to step on any toes. But, we feel compelled to comment on the “resurrection” of the long-vacant McT’s property as a new Sanibel Fish House. We’ve read a good review or two. And since it is a sister restaurant to the Fish House on Bonita Beach Road, which packs its parking lot every night, we expect it will be worth an exploratory visit.

Beyond that, Sanibel Arms West always welcomes comments from readers about their favorite place(s) to eat on Sanibel.

Dr. Causey’s presentation will be sponsored by the Sanibel Sea School.

As the Southeast Regional Director for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Dr. Causey was involved in the management plan for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
